Mission

  • Providing support for Grandparents/Relatives Tutors and their Minors.
  • Establish healthy relationships with the community, Intergenerational Services from the County, The System of Care, County Representatives, Housing Commission and ANY Non Profit or Organization that may benefit the Children and Adults of this group.
  • Be able to express our needs and find the resources.
  • We are also focused in finding happy normal family activities, for the grand families to experience and enjoy.
  • We meet once a month , and have presentations from the different service providers that meet the Grand Families needs.
  • Children are offered Arts And Crafts, Computer Time and supervised homework while the adults meet.

We offered thanks to a grant from the District's Attorney's Office, STEP Evidence Based Parenting Classes to Grandparents and relatives raising minors that reside in South and South East Zip Codes of County .

The classes were once a week 2 hours and lasted for 5 weeks , at the end of which they got a certificate of attendance and $75 gift Card from Old Navy.

Each grandparent/Relative got a book according to age of the children they are raising.

We provided classes in English and Spanish in groups of 10 to max. 15 persons. This was just before Covid at the Mountain View Beckwourth Library Branch , thanks to the unconditional support of Anne D'fazzio Branch Manager . She supported us from 2016 to Pre Covid for all our meetings.

NEW CLASS:

Adopting a Family For the Holidays

For 6 years on a row now, we have been able to adopt a family in need for the holidays, through private donations.

we intend to continue the tradition.

 2020 Holidays

On  2020 we were able to adopt 24 Grand-Families , and 40 children got  nice and warm Pj's thanks to donations from our donor-friends.

We are very thankful and blessed for their help.

Groups

There are 24,000 plus Grand families in San Diego, and growing.

The support groups offer:

  • A safe space to be able to share your circumstances with others like you.
  • Get feedback and guidance from those who had already navigated the system and can share their stories and suggestions from a savy point of view.
  • Pose questions and get answers.
  • A one stop place where you can learn about the alternatives and choices you have from the System of Care and the Community in general, listening to presenters from programs that can benefit you and your minors.
  • All groups facilitated by grandparents like you, who have been or are in a position like you.
  • As a group of groups have our voices heard and achieve our goals.
  • Just come and meet other families in your circumstances.
  • Children are welcomed.

Due to the Corona Virus Epidemic, we will be conducting those meetings via Zoom
